- Minnesota implements nation-leading Q Comp performance and professional pay programPosted on: 2006-10-30

Commissioner of Education Alice Seagren announced today that the Delano Public School District will implement Minnesota's nation-leading Q Comp performance and professional pay program. Delano will be the 28th district in the state to participate in Q Comp and will receive $540,800.00 in state aid to implement the program during the 2006-07 school year.
Q Comp is designed to advance the teaching profession by providing structured professional development and evaluation, as well as an alternative pay schedule that compensates teachers based on performance, not just seniority. The program brings together career advancement, professional development and compensation linked to academic achievement. It includes a locally agreed-upon peer evaluation process for every teacher that is based on skills, responsibilities and student academic growth. This plan is voluntary and will add another $260 per student in participating districts.
Commissioner of Education Alice Seagren said, 'I commend the Delano School District for their leadership and commitment to rewarding quality in the classroom. Improving the teacher pay system and the additional training and career options provided under Q Comp will have a direct impact on student achievement.'
Dr. John Sweet stated, 'Delano School District is a high-achieving school district with outstanding students, staff and parents. We look forward to implementing the Q Comp program to assist us in moving achievement to the next level, increasing staff development opportunities and improving on how we deliver instruction to all students.'
Delano Public School district has 2170 students in three buildings with 132 teachers.

The Delano Relay for Life brought Mother Teresa’s words to life. Together they raised a total of $97888
for the American Cancer Society.
Truly Amazing!!!
“What I do you cannot do; but what you do, I cannot do. The needs are great, and none of us, including me, ever do great things. But we can all do small things, with great love, and together we can do something wonderful.”
– Mother Teresa
This is only the 2nd year Delano has participated in the Relay for Life and they nearly doubled the $55000 they raised last year in 2005! Wow! Thanks to everyone who participated in raising funds, walking and organizing this spectacular event.
“This was the first year that I had attended the Relay for Life and I had no idea what to expect from it. I went to take pictures of the event, but I have to say that the energy and faith that night was undeniable. It was one of the most heartwarming events I have attended and there is no doubt I will be back next year with my walking shoes on, ready to go all night. This is truly an amazing event that everyone should experience, as cancer has touched all of our lives in one way or another.” – Gina NeeHere, in our own backyard, is proof that together we CAN make a difference!
